9/21   Improving the Use of Your Arms
Scott Fraser
reserve online
Whether you are a performing artist, work at a computer or are a week-end athlete, many of us have ongoing shoulder and neck discomfort related to how we use our arms. Through his experience working with repetitive strain injuries, Scott has developed a series of A.T.M. lessons directly related to the improved use of the arms. In this workshop we will explore how to more effectively connect our arms to our core - cultivating a sense of strength and support, and a supple and free organization of our arms, leading to less neck, shoulder and arm pain.

10/26   Transformation Through Breathing
Kathy Yates

Breathing is life. How we breathe influences our heath, movement, and peace of mind. In this workshop we will investigate how our habits of moving, thinking and feeling influence our breath. Through enjoyable movement explorations we will introduce new ideas based in concrete understanding of how the respiratory system works in conjunction with our whole system. We will begin to develop a practice that is revitalizing and empowering.

11/2   A Leg To Stand On: Powerful Posture
Rebecca Gardiner

Some of us need a strong standing leg professionally, all of us need the confidence and ease that comes from standing well. Learn how to create new ways to stand by accessing the neuroplasticity of the brain as we discover the freedom and power available when our legs are truly underneath us.

3/8   The Pleasure of Walking
Julia Pak

We walk every day: but do we know how we do it? Is it possible that this skill we learned as children can improve? In this workshop we will discover the elements of walking. Then through mindful and easy movements and learning from our own sensation we will experience walking in a new way without the demand of being upright. We will explore the importance of the spine in walking and the role of the feet. This process will help us find strategies that make walking effortless yet powerful.

3/15   All About Feet - Part I
Kathy Yates
reserve online
Your feet work hard for you every day. Give them - and you - a chance to feel really good! Our feet have a powerful influence in how we balance in standing and move through space by sending valuable information to our brain through the many nerve endings. Having healthy feet helps us to stand and move more enjoyably, effectively and powerfully; improving the sensitivity and organization of our feet has a strong influence on our whole being. We will explore the many facets of movement in our feet and their relationship to the rest of ourselves.

3/22   Introduction to the FELDENKRAIS METHOD®
Rebecca Gardiner

reserve online
Curious about how Dr. Feldenkrais took movement out of the realm of exercise and into a conversation with the brain? Learn the specific conditions required by the brain to re-program itself and form new connections that provide solutions to pain and injury, while promoting health and well-being.

Scott Fraser

6/7   All About Feet - Part II
Kathy Yates
reserve online
For those who have taken the Feet I workshop and/or are experienced with the Feldenkrais Method®, we will delve deeper into the workings and organization of our feet. Because of the complex organization of our feet and the intricate relationship to our whole selves, there is much value and potential in deepening our knowledge and awareness of the part of us that connects us to the earth as we move through our day. We will explore how improving our relationship to the ground can affect our feeling and sense of ourselves, as well as our movement.

6/14   Organic Movement:
What Your Spine Can Do!

Julia Pak
reserve online
In this workshop we will explore the primal movements of the spine and the muscles around it. Many aspects of these movements are often absent from our everyday functioning. This can cause an array of backaches and pains, a sense of limitation, strain and overuse of some parts at the expense of others. By exploring the fluid side to side and elegant wave-like movements, we will tap into the innate wisdom and efficiency of movement that remains dormant within us. Using minimal force and maximum sensitivity to seek what is easy and natural, the workshop will lead us to re-discover patterns of organic motion relevant to human vertical movement in space. By the end of the workshop you will understand more fully what your own spine does and what movements can bring a different quality to daily activities, ranging from getting out of bed to walking, swimming, and running.
